Dr. Rose Martin

Rose Martin is Associate Professor of Arts Education with a focus on multiculturalism, at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
Rose was a dancer with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, and she then gained her PhD in Dance Studies, before becoming Senior Lecturer in Dance Studies at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

In January 2020 Rose took her current position at the Department of Teacher Education at NTNU. Rose has extensive experience in research and teaching in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. Her research interests include dance education; dance in postcolonial contexts; and dance and politics. Rose has authored over 50 peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters and books. Her books include: The people’s dance: The power and politics of guangchang wu in contemporary China (Palgrave Macmillan, forthcoming, 2020) with Ruohan Chen; Dance, Diversity and Difference: Performance and Identity Politics in Northern Europe and the Baltic (Bloomsbury Press, 2017) with Professor Eeva Anttila; and Women, Dance and Revolution: Performance and Protest in the Southern Mediterranean (IB Tauris, 2016).
